Standard Nipple Piercing is a popular piercing for both men and women. Often people say that the sensation in their nipple has increased due to the piercing, although a small percentage of people have said that their nipple sensation has decreased. Once pierced the nipple may grow slightly.
Most male nipples are not large enough to be pierced just through the tip of the nipple so it is necessary for men's nipple to be pierced slightly deeper into the areola. Women's nipples are often large enough to be pierced at the base of the nipple, in line with the curve of the breast. Some people have even gone as far as to get their third nipple pierced. On most occasions the third nipple is too small to pierce but on some people it can be done.
The healing time for standard nipple piercing varies greatly from person to person and can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. Make sure you follow your Aftercare instructions on how exactly to care for your new piercings. It has been said that you should use a diluted betadine solution, soft soap anti-bacterial soap, or many other types of cleaning products on your new piercing. Because no one has come to a complete right or wrong to which way to go follow your aftercare instructions given to you by your piercer. The way your care for your piercing can make a huge difference as to whether your piercing will heal up quickly and stay where positioned or to not heal and migrate through the skin.
The jewelry that is most commonly used
in the standard nipple piercing is the Captive Bead Ring (CBR).
Continuous rings, Barbells or Circular
Barbells can also be used. The CBR is a popular choice for
initial piercings because they are cheaper and make it much easier to clean
the piercing. It is important that only high quality jewelry is used
in new piercings because the type of jewelry you choose plays a big part
in the healing process. The most common type of metal used in new
piercings is Surgical Stainless Steel (SSS). There are other various
types of high quality metals used in piercing jewelry such as Gold plated
Steel, solid 18ct Gold or White Gold. If the wrong size or
thickness of jewelry is used it can greatly increase the chance of the
ring migrating. Once your piercing has fully healed you can change
your jewelry whenever you wish.
Breast feeding is not out of the picture
when you have your nipple's pierced. There are approximately 20-30
milk ducts in the average female nipple, piercing cuts 3-4 at most so there
are plenty left to enable you to breasted. You also do not need to
take out your piercing to breasted although most times it is recommended.
Circular barbells or standard barbells allow the baby to breasted without
any difficulty and may be left in.
